Collin County real estate is located in the northeast portion of the state of Texas, just to the north of Dallas County. The city of McKinney is the county seat for Collin County. Due in large part to the fact that more and more younger families are choosing Collin County real estate to call home, the average age of the inhabitants has gone down while the level of education has risen.
History of Collin County
Collin County began in 1846 with a total of about 150 people spread throughout the area on small farms and broken off from the original Peters Colony settlement. Its residents didn't want to secede from the United States and originally voted against it an overwhelming 2 to 1. However, when Texas decided to join the Confederacy, the men of Collin County real estate enlisted to fight for their beloved South.
The first railroad throughways in the area began to arise in 1872, bringing with it a boom in the population of Collin County. By the 1920s, several railways made their way throughout the county and took with it the wheat and cotton harvested in the area. With the Great Depression came a huge decrease in the amount of farms in the area. By 1980, some dairy farming remained in Collin County, but the economy was taken over by light industry and the expansion north from Dallas. This has continued to create a growth spurt of sorts all throughout Collin County even today.
Education in Collin County
The large Collin County educational system is made up of 22 different school districts comprised of a total of three early childhood schools, 109 elementary schools, 49 junior high/middle school/intermediate schools, 29 high schools, six private schools, 12 charter schools and 27 special programs.
Additionally, there are six different college and university systems operating in Collin County real estate. The Collin County Community College has five different campuses throughout the county. The other colleges/universities are: College Center at Rockwall, Devry University, Southland Conference, Southern Methodist University in Legacy, University of Dallas at Plano.
