The City of Allen is located in Collin County, Texas. It is the fastest-growing area of Dallas. History of Allen
Allen real estate sits eight miles from McKinney on Farm Road in Collin County. In 1870, the town was created for the Houston and Texas Central Railway, by a purchasing agent and in 1872 it was named for Ebenezer Allen. Mr. Allen was a promoter of the railroad and former attorney general of Texas. In 1876, a post office opened there. Four years later, Denton outlaw Sam Bass supposedly committed the first train robbery in the state at Allen. By 1884, inhabitants of Allen real estate were estimated at 350, with three churches, a school, a chair factory and a flour mill rounding out the city. In 1908, the Texas Traction Company built an electric railway through the town. The population had increased to 550 by 1915. In the mid-1940s, the number of residents declined to 400 and, in 1948, train service was discontinued. The population of Allen started to grow fast, in the late 1960s. The population jumped over 6,000 from 1970 and 1980. The growth of Plano, Dallas and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport helped to boost the economic growth. In 1990, Allen had a population of 18,309 and was the third largest town in Collin County.
Education in Allen
Most of the Allen school system is served by the Allen Independent School District. It is comprised of 13 elementary schools, three middle schools, one freshman center, one alternate school, and one high school.
Small parts of the city limits of Allen extend into the Plano, McKinney and Lovejoy Independent School Districts. Students in the Lovejoy Independent School Distrct go to Allen High School.
In 2006, the marching band for Allen High School, the Allen Eagle Escadrille, performed for the Bandfest and Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. Between the color guard, drill team and band the Escadrille has 650 members. The Escadrille is the largest high school band in the world.
A campus of the Collin County Community College District occupies some Allen real estate. It is actually located inside Allen High School.

The city of Allen offers a huge selection of parks and recreation centers. These include: picnic areas, playgrounds, skate parks, hiking trails, biking trails and swimming. The recreation centers have many year round activities for children and adults of all ages and all interests.
