Farmers Branch was settled in 1842 by Thomas Keenan and his wife, Sarah. Originally named Mustang, the city was soon renamed Farmers Branch as a tribute to its abundant crops and rich, nutrient-filled soil. The settlement originally included all the land between White Rock Creek on the east, the Elm Fork of the Trinity on the west, the Dallas County line on the north and Cedar Springs on the south.The early settlement of Farmers Branch encountered raids from Indians as well as bears. Until 1846, buffalo roamed freely in the area.The City was incorporated in 1946 with an election on February 23rd. The population of Farmers Branch real estate was 800 that year and has grown to over 24,000 today.
