~ Lake Dallas History

Lake Dallas was originally set up as a resort destination in 1852. Initially named French Settlement, there was a bountiful supply of rich farmland and water in the surrounding area. In 1881, the town was renamed Garza and then, when Lake Dallas was impounded in the late 1920s, the citizens decided to rename it once again to Lake Dallas. However, the city wasn't officially incorporated until 1965, after several years of battling it out in the courts.

The residents of the city attend Lake Dallas public schools in the Lake Dallas Independent School District. There are five public elementary schools, one public middle school and one public high school operating in Lake Dallas. The city takes great pride in its educational system.
