Rockwall, Texas
In 1873, the state legislature created Rockwall County from a portion of the County of Kaufman. Rockwall then became the seat of the county. A year later the town incorporated, becoming the City of Rockwall. The railroad came to the city in 1886, making it a major point of shipping. Wells College was opened in 1893.The city continued to grow during the 1920s-1930s. The city's population was declining until after WW II, when growth returned to Rockwall. Growth was slow and steady until the combined influences of the opening of the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, which brought growth to the entire Dallas region, Lake Ray Hubbard's construction and the job opportunities awaiting folks in Dallas.
