History of Argyle
The first known families to settle in Argyle real estate came in the 1850s. It was then known as Waintown or Pilot Knob. In 1881, the area was founded and renamed Argyle after a track was built that went through the area, by the Texas and Pacific Railroad. The town was named for a garden in France by a railroad surveyor.
Education in Argyle
The Argyle Independent School District serves the city of Argyle's schoolchildren as well as those in the neighboring areas. The district operates one high school, one middle school and one elementary school. There are over 1,500 students currently enrolled in the district.
